BMC Street: This is what I currently have on the bike. The lightest of the 3 filters in weight. Said to flow alittle more than stock, biggest advantage is that you can clean it like a K&N and reuse it. The filter element is very similar to stock in shape and size, body made from hard/lightweight plastic, oiled cotton element. Less densely pleated than the K&N.
K&N: Had this on the bike for awhile, didn't really feel any gains. Infact, alot of dyno runs by members of www.fireblades.org have shown that the K&N will actually cause you to lose 1-2hp when installed on a 929 (some other bikes do see gains with a K&N installed). I got it cheap used so I figured I'd give it a try. Wasn't till I had all 3 filters side by side that I realized that the K&N has a smaller filter element than the stock or BMC. The K&N's body is made from rubber, oiled cotton element.
Stock: Most recommended filter to use by 929 owners. Said to flow better than the K&N. Only downside is it's costly and non-reusable. Never had a fuzzy feeling about the metal grate on the back of a stock filter, doesn't look like it'd help much in air flow. But in Dyno testing, the stock airfilter always preformed well. Body is made of hard plastic, Paper element.
Wish I had the time and money to test each and get a nice graph to show....donations anyone?
