Intuitive Frame Sliders

The first thing I did with my brand new 929RR was install a set of frame sliders on the bike.  My first bike, a 90 CBR 600F, had fallen victim to a 40mph lowside early on in my learning to ride a motorcycle.  No Major damage, few cracks and alot of scuffing.  I wasn't too upset because I figured it would happen sooner or later (in this case....much sooner) so I bought a bike that I was ok with dropping.  I'm sure had I gone and installed a set of frame sliders on the bike prior to me learning on it, it may have looked nicer during the rest of my ownership.  So when I got the 929RR I stepped off on the right foot and put a set of Ebony frame sliders in as soon as I could get them delivered to the house.

Installation was easy enough.  Once you figured out which went to which side, it was straightforward.  What I mean by saying that you had to find out which went where is that one side uses a longer bolt and has a tapered end to it where it fits into the frame alittle, the other has a flat end and a shorter bolt (right side I believe).  I removed one engine mount bolt and installed the frame slider with the supplied bolt that was slightly longer.  The only problem I really saw with the kit is they ask you to tighten to the factory torque specs, but don't list them anywhere.  I don't know how many of you know the proper spec, but I didn't.  I just tried in my best to apply the same amount of force that it took me to remove them till I could get it to the shop for the bikes 600mi service, and have them torque them to factory specs.  Installed you can hardly see them, and most people ask if they were a factory option when they do notice them.  No cutting is required to install them which is always great.  All in all it's about a 10 min mod that will save a ton in bodywork if gravity should ever get the better of you.

As far as proving if they work or not, so far I haven't had any "field" testing with them.  Thankfully I've managed to keep at least one wheel on the ground and in an upright position at all times.  But for how cheap it is to do, it's a nice piece of mind knowing they are there just incase.

Update: Hooray, I tested them.....damnit!  See what happened here.

Here is the 929 with the frame sliders installed.  They aren't overly noticeable if your not looking for them.  Incase you don't spot them, they are located just above the lowest yellow stripe, where it crosses through the engine access cover, on front edge of the silver triangle.

Here is a different angle showing the installed sliders, still not that noticeable.

Close up of the Installed slider, still like new 4 years later!
