This is a nice little unit for recalibrating your speedometer. Most bikes suffer from an optimistic speedometer, just how it goes. Usually in the range of 3-7% optimistic, some can be as bad as 13% as some FZ6 owners have stated. What this will do is take the reading from the speed sensor and modify it so the speedo displays the correct speed.
The install is easy, you'll need to remove the bolts from the tank and the front seat. Find the speed sensor plug, on a 929 it's mounted on the left side of the engine, below the fuel pump. It will be in a rubber boot with 4 plugs (2 green, 1 white, 1 black). The black one is your speed sensor plug. Just disconnect it, then clip the SpeedoHealer on to each end of the stock plugs (if you have the Honda Plug and play harness). Then find a suitable location for the SH unit and route the harness to it. The most logical spot was the trunk on the bike. Problem is that the SH has a nice top speed memory that resets every time you turn the bike off. You put it in the trunk, you'll need to open the trunk to push the recall button. To open the trunk you'll need the key...so off goes the bike and away goes the top speed memory. If you don't care about the top speed recall, then mount it in the trunk and be done with it. I wanted to use this feature so I had to find a new location upfront and accessible with out turning the bike off. Came up with the idea of using Velcro to mount the unit right at the opening of the air inlet upfront. Now to recall the top speed I just have to reach down and press the button inside the duct with my finger. Also it's completely out of view.
Programming is easy enough if you have a handheld GPS unit. I just rode down the highway at 50, 60, 70, and 80mph and recorded what the GPS read at all of these speeds. It worked out to 4.4 to 4.5% optimistic for the speedo on the 929. Go here for the speedohealer On-line calculator to help you find your percentage. Once the correction figure is entered double check with the GPS. For me I started at 4.4% and that worked great, but 4.5% seemed to be alittle more accurate. But this thing works great, at all speeds the speedometer was very close to what the GPS was reading. No more needing the GPS to tell me what my actual speed was.
