This day was a blast. One of the local Subaru Dealers had rented out the dragway for all the Subaru owners to run their cars. Being friends with alot of the Subaru guys, I tagged along. Last year I was unable to run the bike, but to be safe I packed my gear up in a backpack incase things changed this year. The idea for today was only various Subaru cars running on the track, no bikes or anything else. Luckily a friend of mine is one of the people who organized this event, so after talking with him he ok'ed me running the bike. Shortly afterwards I was through tech and ready to get racing. Usually you don't run cars and bikes at the same time, but my being the only bike I guess they made an exception today.
Was doing pretty well by the end of the day, some lame runs at the start though. This is the first time I've had the bike on the track in about 3 years. Pretty rusty on my launches and reaction times. I quickly gave up on trying to get the perfect reaction time and just focused on getting a clean launch and good 60ft time. By mid-day I was down to 11.4 seconds, at which point I let my brother give the bike a try. He's ridden the 929 plenty, but this was the first time on the track. You can see his first run here, not so stellar. Of course the bastard runs a 11.2 for his second run, causing some people in the crowd to start teasing me for getting beat on my own bike. He's lighter than I am so he was able to get better trap speeds, but he can't launch the bike like I can so I could still beat his times. In the end of the day I reached 11.121 @ 127.85mph, he reached 11.136 @ 131mph.
No car was able to catch the bike obviously, but some were hitting low 12's which is VERY impressive. A white STi hit 12.0 I believe, but he ended up blowing a seal in the turbo and being hauled away on a flatbed. Another Red Impreza L turbo was also hitting low 12.1. Great to see the cars going that fast. Other than the white STi blowing the turbo, my friend pete had his tranny go on his silver WRX wagon. 3rd and 4th gear took a vacation, time for a STi 6spd!
Bottom of THIS page lists all the 1/4 times for this day.
