CBR chainsaw massacre!!!!

Frame slider did it's job and caught most of the damage.   MINOR scratch on the edge of the flange.   4" patch of scratches on the lower fairing.

Blood!   More blood!   Cherry sauce....I mean blood!

Well, it finally happened, I dropped the CBR.....in the parking lot.  Had gone out for a nice ride with the girlfriend all day, during that I could hear that the chain needed to be oiled.  Once I got home I pulled out the swingarm stand and chain lube and went out to put the bike on the rear stand.  As I lined up the stand with the spools and started to raise the rear end, the left side of the stand rolled over a bump in the pavement.  This caused the bike to tip off the stand to the right.  I dove for the bike, left hand over the seat, right hand went for the tail of the bike.

As I got my hand under the tail, the license plate struck my right thumb and TORE the top off my thumb, over the knuckle!  Next thing I know I'm looking at my bike laying on it's side and the exposed bones on my knuckle.  Went running into my apartment to get some paper towels to try and stop the bleeding alittle.  Thankfully my girlfriend was around so she could take me to the ER.  This still left the issue of the bike laying on it's side, couldn't leave it that way.  I tried to get one of the neighbors to come out and help, but no one was around.  I ended up just ignoring the pain as much as possible and lifted the bike upright, bloody hand and all.

Took 3hrs in the ER, 4 Xrays, 4 Dr/nurse/techs, and 5 stitches to close things up again.  Reason it took so long was because the plate had hit the top of the bone and damaged the cartilage on top of the knuckle.  They wanted to be sure it didn't damage the "joint capsule" before they went any further.  Had to see a specialist the next day and get a splint put on.  Been 3 weeks as I type this now, stitches are out and splint is off but I still can't use my thumb yet.  Maybe get 5 deg of bend out of my joint.  Have to see the specialist again this coming Monday (6 days) to verify things are healing ok.

As you can see from the pics, bike didn't make it out TOO bad.  Some minor damage on the lower fairing, some scratches to the slip-on flange.  Frame slider did it's job very well though, saved me alot in plastics.  I had to take the bike back to NH and put it away for the season because of this.  Thumb won't be healed in time to ride again before snow, looks like it'll be an early winter.  Just how it goes, could have been worse.
